Category: Mongol Derby

Our head of Mongolia Branch, Shatra, is out in the steppe right now meeting with the nomadic families who will host this year’s Derby. Spring in Mongolia is not quite the same. She’s renewing old friendships and making new ones as meets with some of the families and herders along the route. This years Mongol Derby will employ about 400 nomads to rebuild Genghis Khan’s ancient postal system. Let’s hope the summer arrives in the next couple of months.

This is one of multiple route recce’s that take place over the year leading up to the Derby. Soon we’ll be out there mapping the course and water sources. The first teams of vets will pass through to create the 1500 plus strong catalog of horses. Then we’ll be back up and down as the summer approaches getting things ready for the world’s longest and toughest horse race.

Thanks Shatra, we’ve put the kettle on.
