Mongol Derby Leaderboard - Day 1

As expected on Day 1 the gigantic field of 2014 is pretty bunched up but it's at these early stages that the lead pace gets set and riding partnerships begin to develop. The first riders into each horse station (Urtuu) get the pick of the horses, so derby pundits everywhere will be watching early patterns closely.

Australian Brent Albuino led for much of the day and was first in to HS3 with a large number of Americans close behind. Only Sam Jones decided to push on and is now half way to HS3 for the gamble. There is a storm rumoured for tonight so it is to be seen how much the lead will cost her.
