Even the mother of all hangovers couldn't dampen the enthusiasm on the morning of the European launch of the Mongol Rally. Despite having little or no sleep, being on the threshold of the moment anticipated for a whole year made the atmosphere at the European launch electric.
With the skiffle-jazz band from the previous evening warming up the show Mr Buddy began to flex his compering muscles. First up was Matthew from Cool Earth introducing his team and the great work they have been able to do. This year Mongol Ralliers supporting Cool Earth have saved 177,000 trees in Peru. If all the registered teams reach their £500 fundraising goal this number will rise to 300,000 trees.
Next up was a home-grown Czech Iron-Man, Jafar who was to wow the crowd with his feats of toughness. Not to be out-done Mr Buddy stripped down to his smalls to show off his own athletic prowess. Squaring up to a strong man isn't usually a great idea and Buddy was left looking somewhat inadequate. Jafar on the other hand had the audiences full attention as he lifted people with his teeth, dragged a car from his neck and lay calmly while Matthew from Cool Earth broke concrete blocks on his chest.
The Grand Finale Jafa allowed motorcyclists to ride over him whilst laden with their kit. First up was Mike from team "What Came First?" who flew over the portly Czech only for his top-box to explode open on landing showering the stage with his tools and camping equipment. Next up was multiple Adventurist veteran Zaya who wavered upon crossing the colossal chap and promptly ploughed into the earth. Fortunately the only casualty was Zaya's pride and the show went on.
