Three-Wheeled Adventurism Launching on New Year's Day

by Tommy on: 30 Dec 2011 categories: Rickshaw Run, Mototaxi Junket,

At this very moment, the notorious tentacles of 3-wheeled Adventurism may be found looming stupidly over some unsuspecting mountains, deserts, insurance companies and camels.  For whilst the majority of us pick at the last-remaining, and by now probably mouldy, slivers of left over Christmas turkey and finalise our plans not to be utterly numbed by tedium when welcoming in the new year, others of our kind are doing something altogether sillier.

Over 200 Adventurists are descending upon Peru and India for this winter's Mototaxi Junket and Rickshaw Run. The brave Junketeers heading to Cuzco, Peru and the courageous Runners to the Maharajah’s Palace in Jaisalmer, India.  Having arrived they will, quite foolishly, attempt to traverse up to 4,500 km of almost indescribably inaccessible terrain when using 3 wheels, through deserts, over mountain passes, across flooded rivers and possibly not across landslides for two wobbly weeks.

Team Do The Needful at the Maharajah’s Palace in Jaisalmer India

Test driving of their respective 3-wheeled adventuring machines has begun, as teams such as The Easy Riders come to terms with the brilliance of non-engineerance, saying of the noble mototaxi: ‘Steering is a joke and we learned the brakes are garbage the hard way - with a collision with another bike... I feared for my friend as he disappeared into a blur of trees and brush and crushing mototaxi parts.’

The teams will totter forth in their steeds on New Year's Day, no doubt sharp as a collective arrow and ready for the almost-roads having soberly celebrated the night away to welcome in 2012. You can follow them live on The Adventurists' Live Tracking pages with teams updating their location and blog from the back of their vehicle.
