Mongol Rally 2012 photos: Best of the first week and a bit
We're almost two weeks into the rally and the teams still standing are finally finding out what it's like driving 10,000 miles a third of the way across the globe.
In between full-time adventuring, many hours on the road, not unexpected break downs, comedy delays and questionable fines the teams have also managed to squeeze in a little sight seeing and relaxation. Here are some of the best photos posted by teams so far showing the spicy variety of life on the road when you're taking on the mighty Mongol Rally.
A rather more pleasant break down site than your average open drain and road side fumey hole - Team Scuderia Badger
Ten minutes into Azerbaijan, the secound encouter with the police for The Adventourists
Lost in translation? Team Dukes of Hessen
Breakdown - dead clutch for team Men who stare at camels
Part of an intricate and highly technical mechanical design from team Dukes of Hessen that will be holding this car together for the next 9,500 miles
Life on the Road
Angry shouty ladies who didn't want their photograph taken, a Crocodile Dundee moment (with a donkey), deteriorating roads and dressing for the occasion... Life on the road is a very mixed bag on the Mongol Rally - something for everyone you might say.
TV Presenter and author Leon Logothetis makes the mistake of taking this photo without permission. A couple of minutes later they got very shouty and tried to take the car keys. Read Leon's blog about it here or follow his adventure diaries on the LA Times or the Matador Network.
Only Fools and Horsepower meet the locals
The 020 Bastards hit some rough ground in Turkey
'Just try it, bitch.' A couple of mean looking donkeys block the way for The Men Who Stare at Camels... It's just like that bit in Crocodile Dundee where he does that thing with his hands. But with menacing looking donkeys.
I wish my wife looked this good in the shower. Team The Adventourists getting their car washed.
Team Stirred but not Shaken are dressed for the occasion
Extra insulation for the desert heat. Team Peanut Smugglers will blend right in wherever they go with a full fur coat, eyelashes and ears on their car
R & R on the Road
It's nearly all driving on the Mongol Rally, but not all driving. You have to stop and sleep at some point. Some people even do non-driving activities along the way.

...hideous 5* room, complete with a shower that could probably get you into space while massaging your balls and reminding you to skype your Granny. Shame on your luxurious personal hygiene team Khannonball Run
Shut your legs, or you may need to book into the hotel with the aforementioned shower. Team Canadian Camararderie jumping off a massive diving board

A sight for sore and over-driven eyes. Team Uncertainty Principle find a campsite with a view...
