A Brief Guide to the Mongol Derby What's it really like to ride the longest, toughest horse race in the world?

Racing on semi-wild Mongolian horses, riders take on 1000 kilometres of Mongolian wilderness, via a network of 25 horse stations put in place especially for the race and manned by nomadic families and herdsman. Riders changes horses every 40 kilometres, meaning almost 1000 horses are involved in the race.

In 2012 the race starts on 10th August. Riders take between 7 and 10 days to cross the finish line. To find out about applying for one of the strictly limited 35 places for 2013 head over to the Mongol Derby website.
