What Every Team Needs on The Mongol Rally

Sod the baby wipes, forget the zip ties and spare tyres. What every Mongol Rally team needs is a lady. There is far too much testosterone on the Mongol Rally and many teams realise only too late that they've forgotten the most valuable of commodities. If you're lucky you can borrow a Lady Adventurist from another team. If you're wise you can trade one.

Knowing that you are one of very few girls that completed the rally is pretty rad, and makes you feel quite smug. It’s hands down the best thing I have done to date. I have no idea what adventure to embark on next that could top it

Ashley began the 2014 Rally with team 'Fox Force Five'. After suffering social cohesion issues with one of her original team she hitched a ride with Swedish Team 'Wheels of Steel' who enjoyed her company to the finish line.

Despite numerous breakdowns (the suspension shot through the chassis, the exhaust fell off, the brake likes failed, the clutch failed, the fuel tank leaked), they got to Ulaanbaatar in better condition than her original team who spent the last five days of the Rally on the back of a truck.

I will be honest, I was pretty petrified running up to going on the rally. I had no idea what to expect, I had never done any travelling to this scale before. I had never crossed a border by land. I was scared about feeling unsafe, and yes that was because of being female. Thankfully I didn’t experience a single thing that made me feel in danger at all. I had no skills in mechanics, we hadn’t really planned a route other than knowing which countries we were going through. I had barely changed up any money. I didn’t think to bring any really warm clothes other than a coat. But everything was fine! It appears that everything is always fine in he end.

In 2011 The Dirty Canadians traded a watermelon and a camping chair for a lady team-mate with Australian team 'Gone Walkabout'. Their new team-mate Hayley enjoyed the extra space in their 4 door Punto and they had the benefit of her company. They also did their best to help eat the watermelon and steal back the camp chair.

There are still places on the 2015 Mongol Rally. You can save £50 if you sign up by January 6th.
