Thanks Teams

The charities are exuberantly grateful to all your quite simply spiffing Adventurists. All your hard work and fundraising finesse has gone on to help thousands of people all over the world... pop your kettle on the hob, brew an aromatic oolong and give yourselves a mighty pat on the pied.

Below are a selection of snippets of appreciation from the charities themselves.

Mercy Corps

"It has now been three short months since you set off on the 2010 Mongol Rally, thank you all for taking part and choosing to support Mercy Corps. Our current fundraising total for this year stands at just under £120,000 which is an unbelievable amount!

It is because of brave adventurers like you that we are able to continue the vital work that we do, and all of the money that you have raised is essential in providing funds for our community projects in Mongolia. So thank you Ralliers, for all your fundraising efforts. Your support really does make a huge difference and is really appreciated by everyone at Mercy Corps!"

"The ingenious and entrepreneurial attitude of the event organizers and drivers themselves is inspiring – and the uniqueness of the Mongol Rally is something Mercy Corps as an innovative organisation can really relate to.

Where the funds were spent:

The funds from the Mongol Rally are used to support a variety of projects in Mongolia; from setting up schools, building children’s playgrounds, providing home care trainings for families living with a member who has a disability and establishing centres to combat alcohol abuse amongst youth to name a few.

The funds raised on the Rickshaw Runs support projects implemented by Mercy Corps in North East India and Orissa. These endeavour to improve the lives of community members living on tea estates and in the neighbouring communities.

Frank Water Projects

Katie Alcott - Founder - Frank Water Projects

"The extraordinary support from Rickshaw Runs over the past few years has raised almost £500,000 in support of our clean water projects in India, which provide guaranteed clean water to rural communities who suffer from both biological and chemically contaminated water.  Over 100,000 people now have access to clean, fluoride free drinking water, making a profound and lasting effect on lives.  Without doubt, this calls for an enormous THANK YOU to all Rickshaw Run teams past and present - incredible!! The Adventurists' ethos of designing hardcore adventures that raise huge sums of money for the communities they pass through is proving itself a huge success, long may it continue."

Where the funds were spent:

The funds raised by teams on the Rickshaw Run sponsor vital water facilities in villages throughout India.

CYPPD - The Children and Young People's Protection and Development

"Thank you so much to the Mongol Rally for choosing CYPPD to support and an even bigger thank you to the teams that have chosen to fundraise for us. Our small team at CYPPD works tirelessly, all day and night throughout the year to try and give Mongolian children protection from abuse and support to build a better life.

Protection comes from face to face care for vulnerable boys and girls in the markets, awareness raising training with vulnerable girls about the risks they face such as prostitution and trafficking and national work that we carry out through the network against the worst forms of child labour and the End Child Prostitution and Trafficking Network. We support the children through non formal education centers, supporting them into vocational training courses and even back into formal school sometimes. With the support from the Mongol Rally teams we can work confidently and more sustainably in the protection of vulnerable children in Mongolia. Thank you!"

Where the funds were spent:

CYPPD used the money raised to support their Mongolia based projects that focus on raising awareness in Mongolia about child rights, running educational activities such as vocational training and giving children and young people access their basic needs such as education, play and health services.

Practical Action

Practical Action is absolutely delighted to be the chosen charity for the 2011 and 2012 Mototaxi Junkets.

We are blown away by the dedication and extreme lengths that the Junketeers go to in order to support our projects in Latin America.  The fundraising has been fantastic, but there’s even more to it than that – through the Junketeers, people all around the world are getting to hear about Practical Action – yay!  From articles in local papers, Celebrity Tweets (including Stephen Fry!), a piece in the Metro and videos on YouTube – all wonderful wonderful stuff!  It’s also brilliant seeing so many people proudly wearing a Practical Action Orange T-shirt - Thank you!

Where the funds were spent:

The money raised by the 2011 Spring, 2011 Summer and 2012 Winter Junkets is supporting the Paqocha project in Peru - Strengthening Food Security and Reducing Climate Vulnerability of Alpaca Farmers in Peru.  This work is already making a big difference to the lives of the people that we are working with – please see the photographs on Flickr.

Social Change And Development (SCAD)

Thank you from SCAD to Rickshaw Runners Spring 2011

We are immensely happy to thank you for all you are doing to the needy community of our region. We thank every participant of the rickshaw run group and for their valuable contribution towards SCAD activity. We will be using the amount for the projects already proposed; namely providing education and play materials for the schools, supporting the women self help groups to start income generation initiatives, and testing Biochar as soil conditioner and soil fertility along with carbon sequestration. These are on going projects and will be completed  by March 2012.

Once again thank you to all the team for the generous contributions and the support in the development venture.
