The behemothic April Run really separates the men from the boys (and the ladies from the girls). Our longest route takes on all manner of delights in it’s pre-monsoon stride. With not-so-humble beginnings in the tropical heat of Cochin, the Run wends its way gradually upwards and rightwards until it reaches enticing Shillong, deep in the tribal North-East of the country. If you do so wish, then you might want to try and include some of the following things into your route...
- Pop into beautiful Munnar to frolic amongst the tea bushes as you sample a cup of tea or twelve.
- Pass though the former French colony of Pondicherry, grabbing a quick croissant en-route.
- Visit the stunning rock-cut temples on the beach at Mamallapuram, just South of Chennai.
- Head off the beaten track and drive through lesser known tribal villages in Orissa for a peek into history.
- Head to the Sundarbans -the largest block of tidal mangrove forest in the world, for a chance to come face to face with the legendary royal Bengal tiger.
These are just a smudge on a mosquito’s arse of the things you can experience on this Run. Beastly mileage, fierce heat and the whole length of the sun-continent to traverse, all go together nicely to create what is probably the toughest three-wheeled rally known to mankind.
