Benedict Allen
On April 5, 2009, in the fine city of Bristol the Adventurists took afternoon tea with none other than Mr Benedict Allen, the finest and bravest explorer to walk upon this earth today.
“In a nutshell, it’s about leaving things at home! Your GPS, satellite phone, modern transport, sponsorship and companions – all these things may well be useful, but they each get in the way.” Benedict Allen.
We couldn't agree more with Mr Allen's approach to adventuring and thoroughly enjoyed sipping on an Earl Grey whilst listening to him spinning adventursome yarns about travels in far off lands. Benedict’s adventuring curriculum vitae is more jam packed than a jammy-dodger. From undergoing a harrowing "crocodile" male initiation ceremony in Papua New Guinea at the age of 24 in which he and indigenous initiates were locked away, force-fed, extensively scarified over their chest and back and beaten everyday in the traditional manner for six weeks, to tackling the Bering Straits during the coldest Siberian winter in 40 years and being shot at by drug barons in the Amazon, Benedict Allen has explored some of the most inhospitable regions of the planet. Over his 25 years of adventure, he has narrowly escaped death 6 times as well as writing numerous adventure-focused novels. He's also a TV presenter and an internationally renowned speaker.
