Mongol Derby Delivery Run 2018

The Mongol Derby is the longest and toughest horse race in the world. The race is sold out for this year but if you want to experience a horse trek in Mongolia we bring you the Delivery Run.

Hundreds of horses are recruited for the Derby and they are positioned along the course at the 25 horse stations. The final horse station requires a delivery of horses from a different region and the Delivery Run gives you the chance to help deliver those horses and experience horse riding in Mongolia.

You will ride as a group for 7 days from Terelj National Park on to the Mongol Derby's last horse station.

You will ride for six to seven hours a day at a moderate pace covering around 35 to 40km and herd along a couple of your own remounts. A group of eight riders will deliver at least 15-20 horses, in top condition, to the Mongol Derby's final horse station.  Once the horses have been safely delivered and checked in by the Mongol Derby vet team, your work is done. You’ll make camp nearby, bless and say farewell to your horses, and travel to the Derby finish line. You won't have direct access to the riders, who will be deeply focused on final weigh out and packing of saddle bags, but you can witness the spectacle, the sheer stirring thunder of hooves and flap of gortex as the riders gallop for the horizon.

Throughout the Delivery Run, riders will camp in robust little dome tents (you'll put up your own, this is an adventure tour) You will sleep on inflatable mattresses and eat and sleep with the horses grazing contendedly around the camp. If the weather takes a turn for the worse riders may be put up in a local herder's ger (Mongolian yurt) where you will have a chance to see the Mongolian nomadic lifestyle. The food is rustic but delicious and plentiful and vegetarians can be catered for. You'll be led by an excellent local team who will be taking care of you and the horses.

In Ulaanbaatar you'll stay in the newly built Holiday Inn hotel. If you want a different hotel or a room to yourself that would be an extra cost.

Non-riding partners cannot be accommodated on the Delivery Run ride as there are many sections accessible only to horses, or yaks.

*The Mongol Derby Delivery Run is sold and coordinated by The Adventurists and operated by our Mongolian horse-trekking partner.
